Boddingtons Bitter was originally brewed at the Strangeways Brewery which stood on this site, and was promoted in a popular advertising campaign as The Cream of Manchester during the 1990s. The campaign was credited with revitalising the image of Manchester, becoming one of the city's most most famous products which led it to be considered to be second only to Manchester United and Coronation Street in raising the city's profile.
