A bridge has stood at this location since 1447, each being destroyed by the river and war, each time it has been replaced. This bridge replaced the last one in 1795 after severe flooding.
The current bridge was designed by Thomas Telford, and was built in 1798 by contractors from Shrewsbury, John Simpson, for a sum of £9000. A toll house which stood next to it, was demolished in the 1960's.
Hint: Back of Meadow.
